Memories Gleaned through the years

1988

7/17/1988 – Sunday July 17th – Kelley’s 19th birthday.

7/25/1988 – Frankie’s Graduation Party was held here on Tuesday, June 21, 1988.  In attendance were:  Clement Cho, Nuno (Mike) Ferreira, Jamie Lesher, Gordon O’Brien, Frankie Osborne, Jimmy Connelly, Nicole Davis, Donna DuVaughn, Dawn Jackson, Donna Pallas, Amy Quigley, Monica Robinson, Stephanie Shupak, Cathi Savage, Kathy Whelan.  We had car pools since Father DeMayo felt uncomfortable about renting a van as Father Skelly did.

Some of the adults in attendance were: Linda Lesher, Loretta Savage, Doris O’Brien, Bernadette Quigley, Barbara Robinson, Kathy Whelan, Father Skelly, Rich Mitchell, Carolyn Bryant, Anne Cunningham came at dinner time. (I had borrowed her Real Estate notes to study for my real estate test, which I took on June 25th and passed.  Ann brought with her her sons, Michael, Andrew and her daughter, Clare.

Some of the younger members of the party were: Becky O’Brien, Brenna, Aidan and Aileen Robinson, Kathy Whelan brought her nephew and Denise Bryant joined the group.  Some of the former faculty members who attended were Maureen McHale, Sister Joan Mickey, Judy O’Neill with her two children – Billy and Jessica (or Jennifer).  Mrs. Gaubus, the children’s 8th grade teacher, also joined us.  She and Linda Lesher were the only two from the present faculty who attended.

Nice notes in response to the invitation came from Sister Mary Thomas, and Sister Cordelia.  Father Kevin Gallagher was sad since he was unable  to attend because of a retreat commitment.  Chris Amons (Music Teacher) and Mary Ann Crawford (Phys Ed Teacher) were supposed to come but were unable to make it.

One hundred pieces of chicken – eight quarts of French fries – cole slaw – broccoli and corn were for dinner.  For lunch we had the usual – hot dogs, sloppy Joes and soda.  Frank was able to attend for the fourth straight graduation party.  All the Osborne kids were in attendance except for Kelley – who had to work at Frank’s office.  The party went well.  Everyone got home safely.  The end of an era – no more St. Joe graduation parties in Ocean City for us.

7/25/1988 – Sister Donna and Sister Cordelia both of whom lived and taught at St. Joe’s School, came down and rented Room 2 for three days – they came in a day after graduation party.

I got two nuns staying here with me – Room F.  One is Sister Gerald Francis – the other is Sister Grace. Sister Gerald works at Norwood Academy.  Sister Grace is a Music Teacher at St. Ambrose School – Sister Gerald Francis never shuts up.  She talks all the time.  I pray she doesn’t wear me down.

7/27/1988 – Ann Marie Schmieg and Martin stopped by with Emily.  Martin rode his bike from Independence Mall to Smithville to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  Stopped here to take a shower and say hi.

A great getaway

Thanks so much for making our spur-of-the-moment visit such a nice experience. The accommodations were more than we could have hoped for. Enjoy your winter. Maybe we’ll see you next season. Thank you!
